Council Members Take Up The Anglesey Walk Challenge
13 Jun 2007Ever to practice what they preach, members of the Sports Council for Wales have been walking their way to fitness and health by taking a seven mile tour of Anglesey as part of the Ynys Môn Group of the Ramblers Association’s walk from Cemlyn to Church Bay.
Council members personally carried out the guidelines set by the Welsh Assembly Government’s Climbing Higher strategy, which advises that all adults in
Wales should engage in thirty minutes of physical activity five times a week to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle.
The Sports Council for Wales is charged with encouraging more people to take part in recreational walking as part of its task to get more people more active on a regular basis.
Members of the Council met in Anglesey for their bi-monthly meeting on Monday, but prolonged their visit to tie their trainers and take part in the seven-mile walk.
Chief Executive of the Sports Council for Wales, Huw Jones, said:
"Walking is one of the easiest and cost effective ways of increasing the nation’s physical and mental health. No matter where you are based in Wales,
whether you are at home, on a business meeting, or even on holiday, there are always urban or countryside walking routes within your reach."
Local communities and avid walkers were also invited by the Ynys Môn Group to get active sample the magnificent views along the spectacular Anglesey Coastal Path.
Meeting at the Church Bay cark park, the linear route took walkers around Carmel Head and Ynys y Fydlyn before heading back towards Church Bay.
The Ramblers Association is Britain’s biggest walking charity and has been working for over 70 years to promote walking and improve conditions for everyone who walks in England, Scotland and Wales.
